Sunday, April 26 at 4pm, Via Zoom, $44/person
Guests attending via Zoom will receive an emailed link prior to the class beginning.
Jezmina Von Thiele, coauthor of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling and cohost of Immaterial World podcast, will introduce you to the art of tarot. You will learn about the history and cultural context of the tarot cards and their use as divinatory tools, some basic tarot spreads, and tips for remembering the meanings of the 78 cards. You will also learn some beginner exercises for strengthening your intuition.
Jezmina is of mixed-Romani descent, and fortune telling is a multi-generational family trade taught to by their grandmother. The class will also cover how the persecution of Roma, an Indian diasporic ethnic group also known by the racial slur "Gypsies," have shaped the culture's practice of and relationship to fortune telling, and the popularization of tarot and cartomancy in the West.
You will receive an emailed PDF after the class with notes, so note taking is encouraged if it’s helpful to you, but it’s optional. Make sure to bring a tarot deck, notebook, and pen. If you don’t already have a deck, there may be a few extras for the class, or you can purchase one at the shop.
Classes will take place at the Deadwick's Common Room, 19 Sheafe St., Portsmouth, NH and will run approximately an hour and a half. Please arrive promptly at 6pm, and allow time for parking. Guests attending via Zoom will be emailed a class link prior to the class. Please call us at 603-319-6946 if you are running late.
