In this 4-part series, Cara will provide a basic overview of Western (tropical) astrology, including the twelve zodiac signs, the four elements and three modalities, the ten traditional planets, the five major aspects, and the twelve houses.

Although our first class will begin with the question “What’s your sign?”, the series will not focus solely on “Sun sign astrology” (i.e., analyzing personalities based simply on the twelve zodiac signs). Instead, we’ll take a bird's eye view of the larger astrological system, of which Sun signs are just one part. You will leave the series with all the information and skills you need to look at an astrology chart and decode its many glyphs — the ancient symbols that represent the key foundational concepts of this archetypal language.

As with any language, you won't become fluent in astrology overnight, but you'll leave the series with lots of new vocabulary and a solid understanding of the elegant geometry that underpins the study of the stars.

Each class will begin with a lecture-style PowerPoint presentation, with Q&A woven throughout, and will end with practical applications to your own chart, with Cara available to troubleshoot.

Once you sign up, Cara will collect the information she needs to look up your natal chart and print it out for you to use throughout the series. She’ll be your guide along the way as you learn to read this chart for yourself! Cara will also provide a handy “cheat sheet” of astrological glyphs, vocabulary, and key concepts. You may also want to take notes during each class, if that helps you to learn.

While Astrology 101 is designed with total beginners in mind, some familiarity with the twelve zodiac signs, especially your own sign, is helpful. More intermediate astrology learners will also benefit from this jam-packed review of foundational concepts.
