Journey through the Tarot with Jezmina! Take all of Jezmina's tarot classes (Beginner Tarot, Advanced Tarot, Tarot and Dream Magic, Tarot and Shadow Work, and Tarot and Ancestors).
Beginner Tarot: (Tuesday, July 11 at 6pm)
Jezmina Von Thiele will introduce you to the art of tarot. You will learn about the history and cultural context of the tarot cards and their use as divinatory tools, some basic tarot spreads, the meanings of the cards, and approaches to familiarize yourself with their meanings. You will also learn some beginner exercises for strengthening your intuition.
Jezmina is of mixed-Romani descent, and fortune telling is a multi-generational family trade taught to her by her grandmother. The class will cover how the persecution of Roma, also known by the racial slur "Gypsies," has shaped the culture's practice of and relationship to fortune telling.
Advanced Tarot (Tuesday, July 18 at 6pm)
Jezmina Von Thiele will take you deeper in your tarot studies with this workshop. You will learn how to understand the relationships among cards in tarot spreads, additional spreads not included in beginner tarot, how to create your own tarot spreads, methods for using tarot to deepen your spiritual practice, and more intuition strengthening exercises. This class is for you if you’re already familiar with tarot but want to become more proficient, or if you’ve taken Beginner Tarot. Bring your tarot deck, a notebook, and pen to class, and get excited to dive in.
Dream Work and Tarot: (Wednesday, August 2 at 6pm)
Explore the archetypes of your dreams through the tarot and sink into a renewed self-care practice for sleep. Dive into dream work and dream interpretation, using the archetypes of the tarot and Jezmina's Romani-Sinti framework.
In this workshop, we will discuss ways to approach sleep and dreaming as a magical, healing, and cathartic space to integrate the many parts of the self, and to connect to ancestors. These methods will include: ritual, soothing bedtime self care practices, meditation and dream tea recipes.
Together, we will overview dream interpretation and dream journaling, and how to use tarot as a tool in this context. At the end of our time together, we will use the tarot to interpret our own dreams through journaling.
Ancestor Work and Tarot (Tuesday, August 8 at 6pm)
Everyone has ancestors, whether you know their names and stories or not. Even if you don’t know your background, you can have happy, healthy relationships with your ancestors. Jezmina Von Thiele was raised within an ancestor tradition reflective of her mixed-Romani heritage, a culture with a deep love of ancestor veneration. While she will refer to her own cultural context at times, the class will present methods for honoring, communing, and communicating with ancestors of all types (human, animal, and plant) no matter your heritage. This class will also incorporate tarot as one of those tools to put you in closer contact with your beloved dead, and those who came before you.
Shadow Work and Tarot (Monday, August 14 at 6pm)
In this workshop we explore the archetype of the Romani witch Choxani, delving into the realms of Shadow Work using tarot as a tool.
The Choxani is a Romani folkloric witch who, like many other witches in folklore, is elemental, fierce, lives deep in the woods, and can be both helpful and fearsome. In many stories, the Choxani punishes Roma for straying from the culture. In a contemporary setting, she can be seen as a figure who lets you know when you’re not acting right for the good of the self and the community.
In this workshop, we will explore the archetype of the witch in folklore, and how connecting with the shadow witch can be empowering, healing, and ego-shattering. We will also look at the contemporary intersectional feminist figure of the witch among Romani activists and artists. We will use journaling, ritual, tarot spreads, and spell writing as a way to dig deep into honoring the scary parts of ourselves, and heal and empower whatever comes up for transformation.
Please bring a tarot deck, a journal and something to write with to all classes.
Classes will begin at 6pm, and will run about an hour and a half.
$200 per person.
This class will take place in the Deadwick's Common Room. Please enter through the front of Deadwick's upon arrival, at 19 Sheafe St. and allow time for parking.
